Project Overview

The Challenge:

In 2006, Maricopa County had an estimated one million children, a number expected to surpass 1.5 million by 2030, driving a critical need for expanded pediatric healthcare facilities and services.

The Solutions:

In response to this need, Phoenix Children’s Hospital constructed a new patient tower in 2011. This expansion was designed to increase clinical space and enhance services, particularly in specialty outpatient care such as dermatology, endocrinology, and orthopedics. The new facility enables the hospital to better serve the local community and meet the rising demand for pediatric healthcare.

The Technologies:

Cable Solutions played a crucial role in the development of the new Phoenix Children’s Hospital Patient Tower by providing comprehensive low-voltage cabling installation. Our team installed 21,335 Category 6 cables throughout the 760,000-square-foot facility, ensuring a robust and scalable communications infrastructure.

Key installations included:

  • A new Main Distribution Frame (MDF) and a 10,000-square-foot Data Center located on the lower level, serving as the backbone of the hospital’s network.
  • 36 Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) rooms on the upper floors, each connected via 24SM/48LOMM composite cables to the Data Center and MDF, ensuring a redundant and resilient network backbone.
  • Low-voltage cabling to support critical hospital systems, including Access Control, Security Alarm, Infant Security, Paging, Nurse Call, CCTV, MATV, and Distributed Antenna System (DAS).

The Result:

Cable Solutions successfully delivered a state-of-the-art communications infrastructure, providing Phoenix Children’s Hospital with a future-ready network capable of supporting its operations for decades to come.
